A July Favorite
Incredible as it seems it's the middle of July already (where did June go?) and the gardens are bursting with color. This is the peak bloom time for my gardens when all the summer beauties are pushing out flowers at an amazing rate. My absolute favorite of all the blooms strutting their stuff at the moment are the extravagant Tarragona Orienpet lilies that grow in my Sundial Garden. I look forward to their flawless blossoms every year and they never disappoint. The back gardens are redolent with their wonderful fragrance and they command attention from every view in the back yard. I especially love them in combination with the Heliopsis helianthoides (smooth oxeye) and yellow Hemerocallis (daylily).

Those photos were so real that I swear I could smell the lilies. No scratch and sniff needed. Luscious.
ReplyDeleteI need to find some great supports for mine. Otherwise, they're perfect! I can smell them from the opposite side of the property. Fabu-Fabu!
ReplyDeleteThanks Marie, I think Kathy uses rebar for her Silk Road lilies and they work really well. These don't need much because the stalks are very sturdy but I use bamboo stakes for the other lilies like Casa Blanca and Regale

DeleteI love these, Deanne, and your pictures really bring them to life! If it wasn't for the damn lily beetle I would plant more lilies but at this point I've pretty much given up on them :(. But I have your to enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI so know what you mean Sue. The lily beetles make one want to give up on growing these beauties. They went from a no fail garden staple to a high maintenance plant in the borders. Between the voles, chipmunks and lily beetles I feel like giving up at times
