I've been burried with work obligations recently and now it looks like our first hard frost is due Friday night/Saturday morning. All the tropicals are still outside so I'm going to be running around like a crazy person in the next two days. But, I had a great weekend and visited a couple of our local farm stands. We did a bit of apple picking and bought some delish winter squash. What fun. I really love the super saturated colors this time of year. It's like a last blast of color before the brown/grays of winter.

Deletethere is no design...just template and other stuff...i have searched and searched
DeleteWhat a cool place Deanne ..I always wish I had some mums when I see them this time of year, but never seem to take action !
ReplyDeleteThanks Kathy, I really adore the huge displays of fall mums, pumpkins, gourds, etc. It's a feast for the eyes. I don't ever bring mums home anymore because I know the big plant move is coming up and I dont' want to deal with anything else at this time.
DeleteNice! Have a few pumpkins! I love the ornamental kale and that's the best selection I've seen. Is this the place where you picked apples?
ReplyDeleteSupposedly frost here Saturday morning too. Usually I dodge the early frosts. Let's hope so because I have no time between then and now to get things in.
Thanks Sue! No, this place is Lull Farm in Hollis, NH and the place we picked apples was Mac's Apples in Londonderry, NH. Both are great spots for fall frivolity.
DeleteIt's been an unbelievably good vegetable garden year for me. Still have beans and peppers to pick before the frost. The kale and beets will do ok. Might try a winter squash for Thursday night family dinner. But I still hate fall.
ReplyDeleteGlad your veggies did well this year. No matter how many times I tell myself I'll be ready for the first frost I never am.... And so it goes. Today and tomorrow I'll be scrambling to get hundreds of plants under cover and situated indoors.
DeleteI just love the Fall markets! You capture the mood so well, even the kids and dogs who attend! I enjoy looking at the masses of mums too, but I never buy them, only the asters.
ReplyDeleteYes, so much to do at this time...and now I'm fighting a cold. Blarg! Good luck bringing your treasures indoors! Take care of your back!
Thanks Marie, I love Fall at our local farm stands. Such abundance! I don't ever buy mums either anymore and I didn't buy asters this year, only apples and squash.
DeleteHope your cold gets better soon.
You have such an artist's eye in your photo compositions. Glorious fall is well depicted.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks Layanee! I love my cameras as much as my gardens....
DeleteGreat color Autumnal post, Deanne. This early cool weather got me to endulge a bit in some mums and pumpkins/gourds this year on a small scale -- it just felt nice. Your great eye with that camera just makes us all want to jump into Autumn and fun.... if only no frost for a while it would be nice, but I don't think we're going to be that lucky this year. -- Cindy H.
ReplyDeleteThanks Cindy, yes indeed, looks like the end is near. Hard frost for Friday night here. Boo hiss.... wonder how many plants I can get in between now and then?
DeleteThat is a gorgeous blast of color! Wow! I loved every minute of your photos. Fall is the grandest time of year, and it brings to fruition all the prep work in spring and summer. Thanks for the bold and beautiful color. I feel energized.~~Dee
ReplyDeleteMany thanks Dee!
DeleteYou spoil us with your glorious images. Your pictures are so evocative that I can smell fall in the air! There's something so earthy and warming about farm stands in autumn - the abundance of the harvest the work of harvest over (o.k. not for those of us who haven't brought our plants in yet.) gathering in, homecoming. Do you get a lot of leaf peepers in your neck of the woods? One of these years, I'm going to visit Vermont in the fall instead of summer or winter when I've visited before.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! Yes indeed, we get many, many, many leaf peepers around here in the fall. VT and NH are truly gorgeous this time of the year.
DeleteLovely autumnal pictures Deanne. You've captured the season so well.
ReplyDeleteThose pumpkins are so bright and beautiful! I cannot get winter squash to grow here. Actually, that may be a good thing, my husband doesn't like it. I love it though, so yummy. I miss fall color in New England where we used to live. Those pictures of the ornamental kales are almost like a mosaic.
