What could be better than a perfect September day, good food, the best of friends and a gorgeous garden? Not much I can think of. I'm so fortunate to live fairly close to some pretty phenomenal gardeners and they are lucky to be a zone warmer than we are here in NH so they can grow some pretty wonderful things. The Anthony Garden is an interesting, eclectic mix of perennials, trees, shrubs, annuals, temperennials and lots of unique garden art at every turn. The property is beautifully divided into curving beds with hidden paths leading to quiet seating areas or a surprise focal plant or sculpture.
Stepping out on the deck is like walking into a gardeners paradise. This grouping is all in containers and forms a beautiful wall of color to enjoy while dining al fresco.
Taking a stroll off the deck leads you past this great combination featuring a beautifully grown Red Abyssinian Banana. The lovely honeysuckle seen above the banana climbs on a copper trellis and is a magnet for hummingbirds.

So it's back to the drawing board for me. Every time I visit this garden I plan for how I can add more shrubs and grasses to my gardens here.... I think it's time to dig up more of the front lawn..

DeleteIt has been years since I visited this garden and things have changed and matured so much! Not only are they incredible gardeners, but active with dog agility - and their food... well exquisite! You have captured both the vistas and the individual plants beautifully Deanne!

ReplyDeleteYou have done a masterful job of capturing an incredible garden - from my visit there I recall being overwhelmed by the choices of vignettes and camera recording of amazing plant and shrub combos. And yet, it differs every year -- new combos and new art. Thanks for taking such lovely photos -- I am sure L&M appreciate having such lovely photos of their creative minds and hands' products! -- Cindy H.

DeleteYowsa! This is one great garden! That colocasia is HUGE! We can grow them here but we don't really have the summer heat that they love. Thanks for sharing this cool space. Yea for getting rid of lawn!
ReplyDeleteMany thanks, yes indeed, it is one incredible garden and I so love to visit there. I'm lucky that I am friends with the gardeners. That Thailand Giant is a winner! We had some VERY hot weather this summer and all the tropicals here have put on quite a show.
DeleteSo glad you brought your camera! I hope my little varieg arundo grows up to look like that. The rhodochiton vine on the trellis is one of my fave summer vines. Love all the mature woody shrubs and trees as a backdrop. I had no idea there was so much space for Ollie -- what a fitting kingdom for him!
