Here we are at the beginning of September and the annuals and tropicals are over the top wonderful. I just love the extravagant (perhaps gaudy wouldn't be out of place as an adjective here) splashes of color in the gardens. Everywhere I look is another swath of color... What a treat to have this reward for the summer's care of the containers. On the other hand the borders are winding down but there are still Phlox paniculata, persicaria, hydrangea, salvia, heliopsis, helianthus and more still blooming I'm pretty much out of energy for anything more than keeping things watered for another few weeks but I'm starting to plan the huge fall project of dismantling all the pots and getting the tender things in for the winter. But, that will be a next week project, for now I'm enjoying all this wonderful abundance and storing up images and memories for the cold winter months ahead...

ReplyDeleteWhy thanks so much Kathy! Yes all these images were hand held. The Canon 1Ds is very clean up to ISO 800. These were all taken at ISO 320 to 400 and no noise issues. At F8 it was giving me shutter speeds over 100 - combined with the IS features of the lens it's all good.

DeleteI finally tried Persicaria 'Golden Arrow' this year. So far it's stayed compact unlike it's flopfest cousin 'Firetail'. Love that green, yellow and white container under the terrace garden birdbath!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sue, I'm really loving P. 'Golden Arrow' ~ I'd really like to repeat that Acalypha/Coleus/Geranium/Euphorbia/Fern combination next year. I'm hoping to convince Howard to keep most of my Acalyphas over the winter so I don't have to prune them back so hard.
