July Bloom Fest

Nothing compares to the abundance of flowers in our gardens here in July. All the summer perennials are exploding with color. I wish I could bottle up this mass of color so I could roll it out onto the winter landscape in January....

  1. Absolutely gorgeous photos! I've strolled through several times trying to pick a favorite but that is impossible. Lovely! May I ask, what camera do you use?

    1. Thanks so much Gayle! I use either a Canon 1Ds MkIII or a Canon 7D. My 'walk around lens' is a Canon 24/105 F4.0 and I also took a few shots with my Canon 100/400 F5.6 and a couple with my Canon 500 F4.0. I do bird photography when I'm not gardening which is why I have the super telephoto lenses. They can make for some wonderful backgrouns.

    2. Thanks for the info. I am in the research stage of shopping for a new camera so I will definitely check these out. You are so talented with both gardening and photography. I am a lurker of the Idyll postings that you are part of on GardenWeb. I was disappointed when fewer and fewer postings were made. And then thrilled when I discovered your blog and also Marie's. You both inspire me!

  2. Deanne your garden looks wonderful. I think my favorite is the one with the blue jay, he looks so good with the echinops.

  3. Every shot is perfect. I especially like birds and bees in your photos Deanne! Truth be told, I love all white flowers, so #15 would be a favourite.

    1. Thanks Cindy! Every year at this time when the daylilies are so gorgeous I question my decision to get rid of most of them....

  7. I agree with Michelle-the shot of the orienpet was so fun to scroll down, then appears the blue jay!!Loved that. Your lilies are so lush...I'm amazed that the drought hasn't touched the quality of your plantings-though I know you've been lugging hoses. I think it was worth the effort-very nice Deanne.

  8. Interesting to see your Tithonias blooming. I don't think I have one flower yet. Love the vignette in picture #20 with the white Echinacea, variegated inpatiens and cream daylily with the fence backdrop. Perfecto!

    1. Thanks Sue, I'm partial to that combo myself. I really love that 'Coconut Lime' Echinacea. Such a cool plant. RE Tithonia. I've never had huge success with growing it in a combination pot so this year have done a dedicated mono pot with it and it's doing MUCH better than in previous seasons.
